Sculpture Trails

I began exhibiting my pieces in sculpture trails during the

COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020-2021

I made the decision to temporarily move away from creating installations during the pandemic. Many exhibitions were being cancelled or postponed, and even if they went ahead, the highly sensory nature of my work, often in darkened spaces, could in itself evoke strong feelings such as anxiety or discomfort for participants due to the social distancing and mask-wearing.

I focused instead on making work for display in outdoor sculpture trails and virtual exhibitions. This experience gave me the opportunity to develop skills in casting, mould-making and patination.

Exhibiting in large outdoor spaces enabled people to roam freely in the open air, taking in the art without having to worry about social distancing. This created a sense of liberation, further enhancing the sculptures’ conceptual and sensory meanings.

This symbiotic relationship between the land and my art has stayed with me, changing how I relate to space.
