Triumph of Art - Jeremy Deller 2025
In the summer of 2025 I was given the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with fellow artist Ethan Pennell (Aka the Crowman) https://ethanpennell.com/ to paint 5 atlas balls to look like planets for the Jeremy Deller piece taking place in Plymouth & London.
The atlas balls were made of a mix of concrete and stones of varying weights. They were too heavy for us to lift to work on them, so we had to work on the floor and rotate them to achieve the desired results
Ethan and I worked as a team on each of the objects. Problem solving how to maintain the paint work when the body builders were dropping the balls to the floor and for transportation.
Planet earth was the most complicated piece as we wanted to ensure we had included a reasonably accurate depiction of all of the continents. To do this we used a transfer method to map out for ourselves the outline of the land

Once we had completed the work they were transported to Plymouth Lido for the event where the strong men and women lifted them for the audience to see
